A Life of Love - Remembering Annie Higham

Annie "Love" HighamRemembering beloved St. John artist Annie “Love” Higham. Annie Higham, 38, died in a car crash on St. John, in the early hours of May 2.

by Trent Myers

It seemed, the week of Annie’s accident, the island cried.
Annie believed that all you need is love. You could see this child-like idealism when you stood and looked at her art or listened to her talk.
Annie bestowed many gifts on the wonderful people of St. John; she clearly saw and shared her vision of what could be. Through her eyes, there was only love. The people in “her” St. John were holding hands, dancing, clapping and celebrating or playing music.
Annie had insomnia. This fueled many of her art projects and often her ideas would start out as a roughly drawn concept that no one except her could decipher/see and then, as they came into focus, they were elaborate, intricate and amazing. Annie put her heart and soul into her paintings. Even the Carnival t-shirts she would spend hundreds of hours on. annie paintingEach shirt was different but still had the same theme: that life is a precious gift, a celebration to share, and that love is all you need.
Bold strokes and vivid colors is how her art is, and it’s also how she lived her life.

Did you love Annie Love? Come celebrate her life at the Annie Love Memorial Benefit with music, dance, laughter, singing, art and food. June 6 at Rhumb Lines, 4pm until late.
