Open Letter to St. John Villa Owners and Rental Managers

I want to encourage and cajole you into letting a returning, and/or recovering serviceman or servicewoman stay in your villa for free, for up to a week!  This is a wonderful way to honor our servicemen and women, by giving them something they probably can't afford, and a way for them to rest and recouperate.  They have given themselves for us, and many have given their lives!  How better else can we honor them? 

Here is my story.  Last Christmas I received an e-mail that said something to the effect that "when making out your Christmas Cards this year, make one out to a recovering serviceman in Walter Reed Army Hospital!"  So I said to myself, "why, I'll make out a dozen and send them!"  So I did, then I realized we have servicewomen too!  So I made out another 12 and addressed them to a Recovering Servicewoman.  They were all sent to Walter Reed Army Hospital - all 24.  Now here's the kicker!  They were ALL SENT BACK TO ME!  I was livid, and very, very angry that I couldn't send a card to those wonderful people!  (In each card, I had invited them to stay in my one-bedroom apt for a week, for rest and recouperation!) 

I, much later, found out that you cannot send cards to people like that - without a name, so to speak.  I really don't know exactly why not! 

So, I thought and thought, and what I have done, is PUT THE INVITATION ON MY WEB SITE!!  The inviation still stands, and I have just HAD MY FIRST INQUIRY!  He is coming in March!  Yahoo! 

So dear people out there, let your lovely villas be used by SOMEBODY WHO REALLY COULD USE THEM!  You make the decision how many weeks you are willing to give up.  Remember, when you do, you could probably deduct the weeks as a donation to the men and women of the United States Services!
