Friday, March 13, 2009 11am-Noon St. John School of the Arts
The Reichhold Center for the Art invites the St. John community to a free lecture/demonstration from the members of DanceBrazil on Friday, March 13th, 11 a.m. at the St. John School of the Arts.
The event includes an informal performance of excerpts from Afro-Brazilian dances, including the samba, Orixas dances (from the candomblé religion), maculelé (a dance developed in the sugar cane fields performed with sticks) as well as the most current Brazilian "street dances." DanceBrazil Artistic Director Jelon Vieira will provide information about each excerpt and general background information.
The full performance of DanceBrazil is scheduled for Saturday, March 14, 2009, 8 p.m. at the Reichhold Center for the Arts. Tickets are $28 and $38, available at the Reichhold box office at (340) 693-1559.
