Help solve the Cruz Bay parking problem!!

Dear fellow St. Johnians,

I am so heartened by the response from so many of you about trying to figure how to solve our parking problem and to make our town better and more profitable for our local businesses.  I wish to especially thank Michael Barry, Steve Morton, Lolita Bratton, and Kate Norfleet for helping to get everyone on board, but the job is not done.  To those who haven't already, please contact the Governor and the Port Authority via email, to let them know that this is a most important issue for our town.  A line as simple as "we need parking and creek management now", but even more may be some of the comments emailed to me recently from some of you which are so helpful to understand how important parking is for your businesses.  Please send an email to the addresses below and lets see if can make this significant change for our town.

CRUZ BAY PARKING & CREEK HARBOR

Dear Governor John deJongh, Jr.,

Let's solve the PARKING DILEMMA now!

I am amazed that we are, again, only considering building a $4 million parking garage that will take years to complete, if ever.  I urge that the government and business community to consider a TWO DAY EFFORT instead.

FIRST DAY, go to the Enighed Pond and across the street from the tennis courts remove the fence and push the fill in towards the center, level the area and put gravel down.  This will create more than a hundred new parking spots.  Make this area the parking for COMMUTERS and business EMPLOYEES and other longer term parking.  This will free up downtown parking for those that park for ONE HOUR OR LESS.  This will help immediately.  It will be obvious when someone parks all day downtown and they should be ticketed.  The gentle walk from this parking area to town and the ferry dock is the same as where the parking garage is planned to sit.   Imagine if there were 100 fewer cars parked all day downtown.  This will immediately open up our town.

SECOND DAY, we must force the Port Authority to manage the Creek Harbor by moving any long term boats in the Creek to the Enighed Pond.  This will permit other boats, shoppers and provisioning to be able to use this area.  Managing the Creek and parking will add to the financial benefit and ambience of our town.  The Port Authority gets fees, our business community survives, people can park, there is less congestion, and everyone is happy.

These TWO DAYS will cost almost nothing and will change our town immediately.

To build a parking garage can come later, if needed, but immediately we need to do TWO DAYS OF EFFORT!

Please send an email of your concerns to the Governor and the Port Authority.  Let them know that we want immediate action to our problems of parking and congestion in Cruz Bay and at the Creek Harbor.
