Roundabout Right of Way

Cruz Bay RoundaboutAin't no stoppin' us now

Project Manager Butch Brooks confirms there will be no stop signs, only yield signs, in the St. John roundabout.

So here's the definitive way to go:

If you are ENTERING the roundabout, you must yield to traffic in the circle. If you are WITHIN the roundabout, you have the right of way and do not need to merge or stop for entering cars.  If there are no cars in the roundabout, you don't need to stop before entering. If you are entering the roundabout and cars are backed up, you must wait for them to clear Roundabout Rulesbefore entering the roundabout. In other words: traffic flows clockwise, and you may only make left turns.

Fun facts -  Half of the world's roundabouts are in France. Roundabouts vs. stoplights: roundabouts greatly reduce the number of traffic accidents, partly because traffic enters at an angle. In countries where people drive on the right, traffic flow is counterclockwise.
